Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson can smell what Elizabeth Warren is cooking ... and he likes it.

On Friday afternoon, the movie star tweeted this after it was revealed that the Democratic senator from Massachusetts was a big fan of the HBO show Ballers, which is basically Entourage but with sports agents:

Can't wait to meet Senator Warren one day. She's got a big Rock sized hug coming for all the @BallersHBO luv. She's a baller 👊🏾https://t.co/Ekggy8raDB

— Dwayne Johnson (@TheRock) July 1, 2017

In a segment for Full Frontal, Warren sat down with host Samantha Bee, where it was revealed the senator had a huge crush on The Rock—which, I mean, who doesn't. Read more...

Oscar winner and professional scene-stealer Mahershala Ali has single-handedly renewed our interest in True Detective Season 3.

The Moonlight star is currently in early talks to star in the third season of HBO's anthology crime drama, Mashable has confirmed, although a deal is not yet in place. HBO declined to comment on Ali's potential involvement, which was first reported by the Tracking Board.

If everything works out, Ali would follow in the footsteps of Season 1 stars Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson, and Season 2 leads Rachel McAdams, Colin Farrell, Taylor Kitsch and Vince Vaughn.  Read more...

In what many climate scientists see as a direct assault on the scientific process, the Trump administration is moving ahead with a plan to hold so-called "red team, blue team" climate science debates.

The plan, which was first reported by ClimateWire on Friday morning and then detailed by the New York Times, would involve government-appointed experts chosen with the help of Scott Pruitt, the head of the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), and an outspoken climate denier.

In an indication of who the plan may be intended to favor, it was reportedly first unveiled to coal company executives at a meeting of the American Coalition for Clean Coal Electricity on Thursday. Read more...

WannaCry paralyzed hospitals. NotPeya crashed banks. But how to know if you're vulnerable to the stolen National Security Agency exploit that fueled two major cyber attacks and helped bring down computers across the globe?

Thankfully, a new tool has your back.

After the Shadow Brokers hacking group dumped a cache of stolen NSA exploits in April, the cybersecurity community issued dire warnings that things were about to get really, really bad. But then Microsoft quickly chimed in to note that it had already patched the vulnerabilities in question.  Read more...

There are a dozen very good reasons why you might have stopped watching Doctor Who. Maybe you're a holdout from the classic series, which ran from 1963 to 1989. Maybe you loved Christopher Eccleston in the role and couldn't stand David Tennant; maybe you're a die-hard Ten fan who loathed Matt Smith.

More likely, you've been turned off at some point in the Peter Capaldi era. No doubt you love the grumpy old Scot himself, but showrunner Steven Moffat's increasingly twisty scripts, reset-button endings and preference for jokes over satisfying plot points have left many former fans with Who fatigue.  Read more...

Netflix has never been on the big Hall H stage at Comic-Con, but then again, they've never had anything quite like Stranger Things.

The streaming phenom first came to Netflix on July 15 last year, just a week before the annual nerd pilgrimage got underway. The buzz that's made the show such a hit was just building steam then — and certainly not in time to make it Hall H-worthy.

Well Hall H, prepare to go upside-down: With a year under its belt and a new season right around the corner, Netflix is moving into the big kids' room, the 6,000-seat monolith where so many Comic-Con legends were born. Read more...

A robotics competition team of Afghan girls won't be able to watch their creation compete in person.

They were recently denied one-week visas to the United States to come to Washington, D.C., for the First Global Challenge, a new robotics competition that focuses on providing clean water.

The team twice traveled the roughly 500-mile distance to the U.S. embassy in Kabul, Afghanistan's capital, for visa interviews, but officials denied them.

"I wanted this to happen badly, I really did," said First Global President Joe Sestak, a former member of Congress. "These girls are courageous." Read more...

The Starks and the Boltons may have been sworn enemies on Game of Thrones, but they didn't let that get in the way of a good time.

Speaking at the Con of Thrones convention in Nashville on Friday, Iwan Rheon (aka Ramsay Bolton) revealed that after filming wrapped on episode 609, "Battle of the Bastards," the two sides put aside their differences for an evening of revelry.

"When we finished filming 'Battle of the Bastards,' all the Bolton guys and the Stark guys got together and had a massive party," he recalled. "So we were in there having a great night with all the guys from my army — the Bolton boys had written a song about Ramsay, so that was really good fun. When you’re filming it, you don’t get to interact much with those guys, and they put so much hard work into it, so it was a great way to celebrate the whole thing with them." Read more...

President Trump blasted the media yet again Friday as photographers got a bit rowdy fighting for a good spot in the Oval Office.

They were jostling for space during a meeting with South Korean president Moon Jae-in.

"Fellas, easy," Trump warned, stretching his hands out as the pack encircled him. "You guys are getting worse."

Dawn Russell spent two nights camped out with nine other people in a small room in Sen. Cory Gardner's office. On Thursday evening, after their 60-hour sit-in, Russell and her fellow activists were removed from the office and arrested.

Russell was there because the Colorado Republican is one of the key swing votes who could either help pass or stop the GOP's healthcare bill — and she is one very angry constituent.

The Denver-based activist lives with cerebral palsy, a neurological condition that affects body movement and muscle coordination. She's a veteran member of ADAPT, a grassroots community that organizes disability rights protests. They frequently stage protests against laws that would reduce funding for Medicaid, the federal health program that aids low-income people and those with disabilities. Read more...

Ever wonder how NASA is able to find and track possibly hazardous asteroids near our planet? Well, this video explainer has you covered.

It was released on World Asteroid Day, which is devoted to raising public awareness of the dangers of asteroids and comets in our cosmic backyard. NASA has actually discovered tens of thousands of asteroids floating around our part of space.

Asteroid Day takes place every June 30, on the anniversary of the Tunguska event, which occurred in 1908. On that day, researchers think a 40-meter-wide space rock entered the atmosphere over Siberia flattening trees for about 800 square miles.  Read more...
