Captain America and Iron Man are one of the iconic Marvel duos, and their offscreen counterparts are comparing their friendship to other Disney pairs.

Chris Evans and Robert Downey Jr. have had an adorable little buddy back-and-forth on Twitter, comparing their friendship to familiar faces from Disney's animated movies.

Downey Jr. posted a side-by-side image of himself and Evans alongside a snap of Bambi and his gal pal Faline from Bambi II, the 2006 sequel to Disney's 1942 classic.

A large chunk of an Australian beach has fallen into the ocean, in another incident of its kind in recent years.

On Monday morning, approximately 200 to 300 metres (218 to 328 yards) of beach at south-east Queensland's Inskip Point eroded into the ocean, leaving a gap in the coast which reaches to the tree line.

Rainbow Beach Helicopters posted aerial images and video of the erosion on Facebook.

A Queensland Parks and Wildlife Service spokesperson said it was likely the erosion was caused "by the undermining of part of the shoreline by tidal flow, waves and currents." Read more...

Wear black and walk out.

That's what the Time's Up movement against systemic sexual harassment and abuse has called for on Monday, following multiple accusations aimed at Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh.

On Sunday night, the activist group posted the rallying cry on Twitter, calling on people to join forces with women's groups across the U.S. to simply "walk out (of your home, workplace, classroom, wherever you are)."

Set for Monday, Sept. 24 at 1 p.m. ET/10 a.m. PT, the walkout is pitched as a moment of solidarity with Christine Blasey Ford, a professor at California's Palo Alto University, who recently accused Kavanaugh of sexual assault. Read more...

'Tis the season for nightmare fuel, and one fascinating but unsettling discovery is getting into that fall spooky spirit.

A woman in northern Virginia found an extremely rare baby copperhead snake in her neighbor's yard recently, complete with not one but two heads. Because, ya know, the venomous viper part wasn't terrifying enough in itself.

After initially being picked up by the Virginia Wildlife Management & Control, the rare serpent is now being taken care of by an unnamed, experienced private reptile keeper.  Read more...

Google chief Sundar Pichai wants the people working for him to understand this clearly: Google's search results aren't influenced by political bias.

That's the message Pichai focused on sending in a Friday email to all employees. He was responding to reports of a January 2017 email chain that started a few days after Donald Trump instituted his first version of the Muslim ban.

A Thursday report from the Wall Street Journal noted that, in early 2017, employees talked about using Google's search features to respond to Trump's controversial travel ban that focused on predominantly Muslim countries. They sought a way to push back against "islamophobic, algorithmically biased results from search terms ‘Islam’, ‘Muslim’, ‘Iran’, etc." and "prejudiced, algorithmically biased search results from search terms ‘Mexico’, ‘Hispanic’, ‘Latino’, etc." Read more...

No, this is not an episode of Breaking Bad. This is real life.

On Friday, Sept. 21, the Texas Department of Criminal Justice (TDCJ) posted on Facebook about a drug mix up that sounds like it has just as wild a story behind it as the hit AMC TV series.

The department received 45 boxes of donated bananas from Ports of America in Freeport near the Gulf of Mexico. But it turns out the donation was a greater gift than either organization could have imagined, containing an additional 540 packages of cocaine, valued at nearly $18 million.

"Sometimes, life gives you lemons. Sometimes, it gives you bananas," the TDCJ post joked. Read more...

The casual uniform of the millennial techie is a running joke by now, but some are starting to swap in their t-shirts and worn jeans for actual adult clothes. Stylist Victoria Hitchcock told Vox what it's like to overhaul the lives and styles of Silicon Valley's emerging employees – who literally can't dress themselves – as they go "from boys to men."

Hitchcock has been styling members of the tech and business industries for 25 years, convincing them to part with stained tees and ratty jeans and glow up enough to be prominent in the field without embarrassing anyone.  Read more...

For once, it seems the story of a big Hollywood studio facing criticisms over poor representation ended with a happily ever after.

In the months since teasers for Wreck-It Ralph sequel, Ralph Breaks the Internet, started showing a Disney princess reunion scene, fans have been calling out the studio behind the movie for whitewashing one of its few princesses of color: Tiana from The Princess and the Frog.

According to a report in The Wall Street Journal on Thursday, Sept. 20, Disney actually listened and re-did her scenes. Read more...

It's just like the movie Armageddon, but without the apocalypse scenario.

The Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA) has reason to celebrate after successfully deploying a pair of robots on the surface of an asteroid. The mission, which played out on Friday, aims to gather photos and data from the asteroid called Ryugu.

The mission's success — marking the end of a four-year journey — was confirmed in a tweet on Saturday from JAXA's account for the Hayabusa2 asteroid explorer.

We are sorry we have kept you waiting! MINERVA-II1 consists of two rovers, 1a & 1b. Both rovers are confirmed to have landed on the surface of Ryugu. They are in good condition and have transmitted photos & data. We also confirmed they are moving on the surface#asteroidlanding

Something new is happening in Pokémon Go.

A mysterious critter has appeared in the game, and it's something Pokémon fans have never seen before. It was first discovered when a programming-savvy fan found an image and a reference to "Pokémon 891" in the game's code.

The newcomer has the body of a sheet-covered ghost and a nut — the hardware, not the legume — for a head, with one eye staring out of its central hole. It doesn't have a name and no one's been able to catch one (not exactly), but it's definitely appearing in the game now.  Read more...

The #MeToo movement received a jolt this weekend with the new hashtag #WhyIDidntReport, prompted by Donald Trump's pushback on allegations raised by Christine Blasey Ford, who has accused Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh of sexual assault.

Actress Alyssa Milano was among the staggering number of people who tweeted heartbreaking personal stories of being sexually assaulted and choosing not to report it for any number of reasons. "If you ask me why I’m in politics, my answer will be simple: children," New Zealand Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern told the audience at Mashable’s 9th annual Social Good Summit on Sept. 23.

On the one-year anniversary of the general election that elevated her to power, Ardern spoke about one of her greatest passions as a politician: helping kids.

"When I came into office, somewhat surprisingly, I did so with the single-minded determination to improve the lives of children in New Zealand," she said, speaking alongside the executive director of UNICEF, Henrietta Fore.

"As one of our 12 priorities as a government we want to make New Zealand the best place in the world to be a child," Ardern said. "Not to raise children, but to be a child." Read more...

Several years ago, Sonita Alizadeh's parents were considering selling her into marriage in order to pay for her older brother's bride. Alizadeh, an Afghan refugee who was living in Iran at the time, dreamt instead of getting an education.

Eventually, with the help of a documentarian, she turned her song "Brides for Sale" into a viral YouTube video. Now Alizadeh is an activist who fights against child marriage.

Netflix's Maniac, starring Emma Stone and Jonah Hill, is here to fuck you up.

The 10-episode series is being compared to all kinds of pop culture cousins, from Inception to Westworld to Legion (Superbad jokes are in the rearview now)Variety called it one of the year's best shows, while a more critical New Yorker review still praises the show's "alluring technique."

We can't quite explain it without giving things away, but please enjoy the reactions of everyone along for the ride.

Maniac on Netflix is instantly iconic. Classic TV experience akin to watching Mr. Robot or Twin Peaks for the 1st time. 3 episodes in. Really hope it keeps the high bar.
