The winners of the 2018 Turing Award have been announced.

Geoffrey Hinton, Yann LeCun, and Yoshua Bengio — sometimes referred to as the “godfathers of artificial intelligence” — have won the 2018 Turing Award for their work on neural networks. The three artificial intelligence pioneers' work basically laid the foundation for modern AI technologies.

In the 1980s and early 1990s, artificial intelligence experienced a renewed popularity within the scientific community. However, by the mid-90s, scientists had failed to make any major advancements in AI, making it harder to secure funding or publish research. Hinton, LeCun, and Bengio remained undeterred and continued with their work. Read more...

We like maps here at PCMag. We recently surveyed 2,033 US consumers across the country on a variety of tech topics, and we gathered additional demographic data, including the respondents' home states. First we told you which states prefer Android or iOS, then we mapped preferred gaming platforms. This week, we're looking at the most popular dating apps in each state.

The dating-app landscape is crowded with options: Tinder, Bumble, OKCupid, Match, Plenty of Fish, and Zoosk, as well as other lesser-known services, such as Coffee Meets Bagel and HingeTinder was the top dating app in the US, at 17 percent. It was followed by Match, at 15 percent. Bumble and Plenty of Fish each garnered 8 percent, and OKCupid and Zoosk earned 5 percent apiece. Eight percent chose "Other." And 34 percent of respondents said they don't use dating apps. Read more...

DirecTV upped prices last year, Netflix upped prices in January 2019, and Apple is releasing its own (probably expensive) streaming service. The last thing you need is for your internet provider to slow your internet and start charging for high viewing speeds.

The Net Neutrality aftermath hasn't hit hard yet, but it could happen at any time. Unless you think ahead about your cybersecurity with a VPN, that is: PureVPN is as low as $3.33/month, and with this BOGO deal, subscribed members can send a monthly subscription to a friend for free.

A few things matter when choosing the VPN for you: Speed, coverage area, a "no log" policy, and for newbies, just being easy to use.  Read more...

Many of us just can’t go a single day without a fresh cup of joe in the morning. Some make their coffee in the classic carafe, some have taken to Keurig’s quick and easy K-Cups, but others like to stick to a more ritualistic and rewarding coffee-making experience. Pour-over coffee makers take a little bit more time to produce your caffeinated hot beverages, but the time is well worth it — they are said to be the most flavorful way to get your coffee.

Chemex, one of the most popular coffee maker manufacturers, has their classic pour-over design on an $8 discount at Amazon. Drinking your morning coffee doesn’t have to be the only enjoyable part of your morning — actually making the coffee can become one of your favorite moments as well.  Read more...

March Mindfulness is our new series that examines the explosive growth in mindfulness and meditation technology — culminating in Mashable's groundbreaking competitive meditation bracket contest. Because March shouldn't be all madness.

First rule of the Cardi B club: be able to roll your r's.

In a news segment about Cardi B's plans to trademark her infamous "Okurrr" tagline, anchors on NBC 10 WJAR attempted to say the word themselves. Mark Searles and Emily Volz did it without a hitch. Next, they convinced their co-anchor, Dan Jaehnig, to try.

Unlike his peers, he simply couldn't do it. Instead, he let out a frightening caw. "I sound like a parakeet," he laughed while taking stabs at replicating Cardi's high-pitched call.

Watch the anchor hilariously botch the catchphrase— and try not to have nightmares about his noises later. Read more...
